A biomechanical model of the face including muscles for the prediction of deformations during speech production

چکیده
A 3D biomechanical finite element model of the face is presented. Muscles are represented by piecewise uniaxial tension cable elements linking the insertion points. Such insertion points are specific entities differing from nodes of the finite element mesh, which makes possible to change either the mesh or the muscle implementation totally independently of each other. Lip/teeth and upper lip/lower lip contacts are also modeled. Simulations of smiling and of an Orbicularis Oris activation are presented and interpreted. The importance of a proper account of contacts and of an accurate anatomical description is shown.

Evaluation of Canonical Correlations between Masticatory Muscle Orientation and Craniodentofacial Morphology in 10-17 Year_Olds
Objectives: Different theories have been suggested to define factors involved in skeletal and craniofacial morphology. Many of these theories explain that the bone morphology is the result of the bone tissue capability to adapt in response to biomechanical forces exerted during growth. Also, it seems logical to hypothesize that there is a relationship between biomechanical connections of muscle...

This paper describes the system for visualization of human face and its animation. The system uses the representation of real facial muscles on a model of a face. The animation is based on the deformations of muscles. These deformations are described in the medical literature. We used the advantage of defining objects in VRML (Virtual Reality Modelling Language). The application has been writte...
متن کاملA Continuous Biomedical Model to Study Facial Gestures in Speech: Muscle Coordinations and Mechanical Properties
Many biomechanical models of the human face have been proposed in the literature, mainly developed in the context of computer graphics animation (Sifakis et al., 2006; Gladilin et al., 2001), computer-aided maxillofacial surgery (Chabanas et al., 2003) or speech production (Lucero & Munhall, 1999; Piterman & Munhall, 2001; Gomi et al., 2006). Most of them propose to model the face with a volume...
متن کاملDecoupling functional units in speech production using auditory startle
Functionally defined neuromuscular structures, or modules (e.g., agonist-antagonist pairings), may be decoupled when elicited by a startling auditory stimulus (SAS), revealing possible lower-level functional units. The current study examines lip kinematics in SAS-induced responses and uses a 3D FEM biomechanical model to simulate the temporal interaction between facial muscles used in speech. R...
متن کاملGeomechanical Sanding Prediction in Oil Fields by Wellbore Stability Charts
Sand production is a universally encountered issue during the exploration of unconsolidated sandstone reservoirs particularly during production. The production of sand particles with the reservoir fluids depends on the stress around a wellbore and the properties of the reservoir rocks and fluids. Therefore, it is crucial to predict under what production conditions sanding will occur and when sa...
